10 Tips to Host a Great Galentine’s Day Party
If you’re like me, the women in your life deserve to be celebrated! My friends have supported me through divorce, encouraged my dreams, and they love my daughter. I’ve hosted a Galentine’s Day party to show my appreciation and love for my girlfriends the past three years. This post highlights my best food, flowers, and decor ideas. Cheers to friendship!
Decorate with flowers. Whenever I invite guests to my home, I want it to feel special. The most impactful decorating tool is flowers and lots of them. The most sensible and inexpensive place I have found to purchase flowers is Trader Joes. I typically stick with monochrome flowers of different varieties and sizes because I like the aesthetic and I find it makes arranging them easier. Here are a few examples of some flowers I’ve purchased and arranged myself for Galentine’s Day.
2. Sweet treats are a must. A gathering specifically for women should absolutely include chocolate and special desserts. Baking is a passion of mine, so I enjoy making homemade treats. If it’s not your thing though or you’re short on time, by all means, grab some goodies from your favorite local shops. Some of the goodies I’ve pictured include chocolate cupcakes, heart shaped shortbread cookies, homemade cherry mash, decorated sugar cookies, sex and the city cupcakes, and chocolate covered strawberries. 3. Savory bites are always a part of my Galentine’s Parties because I typically invite my gal pals to come over early evening after work. I’ve found that Thursday nights accommodate most of my friends since we’re all working women and only have Friday to push through after our gathering. Again, cooking is a passion of mine, so I love trying out new recipes for parties like this. I’ve recipe tested homemade pretzels (delicious!) and homemade hummus. I’ve honed charcuterie board skills and I’ve kept it simple with Trader Joe’s flatbreads topped with blackberry, goat cheese, and arugula. My Pinterest Board includes several savory ideas.
4. Keep things simple by serving a variety of wine and bubbly. I typically offer my guest Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Prosecco. Again, I recommend Trader Joe’s to keep the cost down. While I don’t ask my guests to bring anything, a lot of my friends tend to show up with a bottle or two which is always appreciated.
5. Sending an Evite text invitation distinguishes your Galentine’s Day Party as a special event rather than just a simple get together. I’ve found that when I take the time to create a cute Evite, my friends show up! I don’t know about you, but if I’m going to the effort and expense to throw a party, I want my girls to be there. The whole point of this event is to gather to celebrate friendship and an Evite sets you up for success rather than let down.
7. Ask your friends to dress for the occasion. While I love an excuse to dress up and get fancy, that’s not exactly what I mean here. I love to keep this girl party casual, so I simply ask my friends to where pink, red, or whatever they deem to be Galentine’s Day(ish).
8. Commemorate your time together. Another good reason to dress for the occasion is that the similar clothing colors makes for fabulous pictures. I treasure these memories of fun times together and just look at how cute the pics are! I’ve made balloon arches, bought props, and just snapped pics in my little kitchen. Put as much effort in as you have time or energy for. It’s all about preserving your memory of good times with good friends. My Amazon List includes supplies and decor to make this easy!
9. If you have a daughter, include her and her friends. This upcoming Galentine’s season will be my first without my daughter since she’ll be away at Ole Miss living her best life. For this reason, I’m so happy that for three years, she and her sweet besties shared in this Galentine tradition with me and my girlfriends.
10. Gift your girls with a little take home treat. I’ve put together little treat boxes containing some of my favorite lip balm, bath salts, candies, and homemade treats. I’ve also sent them home with a bud vase of flowers. I have a feeling they’ll adore any token of your love. My Amazon List includes ideas for simple, thoughtful take-home gifts.
